Summary: Eucalyptus mats can reduce your company’s carbon footprint and help support the maintenance of United States hardwood forests and biodiversity.
In recognition of Earth Day’s 49th birthday we wanted to write about how plantation grown eucalyptus mats can reduce your company’s carbon footprint and help support the maintenance of United States hardwood forests and biodiversity.
Because eucalyptus plantations are fast growing and a single species the total tree biomass (the amount of biological “stuff”) growth is about five times faster per acre of land than a United States hardwood forest. Total biomass growth is exactly related to total carbon sequestered by a forest.
Each World Forest Group Eucalyptus mat sequesters about 66% more carbon per mat than a mixed hardwood mat does. Every time you buy a World Forest Group eucalyptus mat, you’re doing good! And now, all World Forest Group Eucalyptus timber mats are carbon neutral.
The carbon footprint for transportation in every single move is about 20-27% less with our mats than with mixed hardwood mats. That’s because we get 22 mats per truck vs. 16-18 mats per truck. Every time you move a World Forest Group Eucalyptus mat, you’re doing better!
In addition, by using Eucalyptus mats you aren’t adding any stress to USA natural hardwood forests or on their biodiversity. Eucalyptus plantations are designed to be low impact and high output. In our region of Brazil land conversion is very tightly regulated and policed. Eucalyptus can only be planted on poor, bare grounds, not to replace native forests. Every time you buy a World Forest Group Eucalyptus mat you’re doing even better by helping to protect the very forests that you camp, hunt, fish and walk in.
